W bardzo ciepły czwartkowy poranek, 1 sierpnia, Hon. Mona Fortier, posłanka z okręgu Ottawa-Vanier, Pan Pierre Tessier, asystent wiceministra ds. polityki strategicznej, VAC, dołączyli się do ppłk Pani Ewy Ponińskiej-Konopackiej, Damy Orderu Virtuti Militari, członków Polskiego Korpusu Dyplomatycznego, członków Stowarzyszenia Polskich Kombatantów wraz z członkami Polonii, aby uhonorować lotników RCAF, którzy polegli nad Polską podczas misji wsparcia podczas II wojny światowej, a w szczególności podczas powstania mającego na celu wyzwolenie Warszawy spod okupacji hitlerowskiej w sierpniu i wrześniu 1944 roku.
Obchody odbyły się w Confederation Park w Ottawie, gdzie w 1964r. Stowarzyszenie Byłych Żołnierzy Armii Krajowej wzniosło pomnik ku pamięci lotników RCAF.
Dokładnie o godzinie 11:00 czasu ottawskiego, a 17:00 w Polsce, wszyscy zgromadzeni połączyli się chwilą ciszy z narodem polskim i Polakami na całym świecie.
Po odegraniu hymnów narodowych Kanady i Polski, Mistrz Ceremonii, Pan José Semrau, Wiceprezes Koła nr 8 SPK w Ottawie, przekazał wyrazy żalu od Pana Andrzeja Ruty, Prezesa SPK w Kanadzie i Pana Adriana Hanusiewicza, Prezesa SPK w Ottawie za nie obecność. Obydwaj uczestniczyli w uroczystościach upamiętniających Powstanie Warszawskie w Polsce.
Hon. Mona Fortier, JE Pan Witold Dzielski i Kmdr. Paweł Podgórny skierowali swoje uwagi do obecnych.
Panu Kazimierzowi Samujło, sygnaliście SPK, towarzyszył trębacz wojska kanadyjskiego wraz z dudziarzem. Rozpoczął się “Last Post” – chwilą ciszy – po czym nastąpił “Rouse” i zakończył się “Lamentem”.
Następnie przystąpiono do składania wieńców:
• Hon. Mona Fortier, w imieniu Rządu Kanadyjskiego
• ppłk Ewa Ponińska-Konopacka, w imieniu Armii Krajowej, w asyście dra Elżbiety Komsty, sekretarza Koła #8 SPK w Ottawie
• JE Witold Dzielski, w imieniu Rzeczypospolitej Polskiej, w asyście Kmdra. Pawła Podgórnego i Pani Natalii Kubik
• Pan Pierre Tessier, w imieniu Veterans Affairs Canada, w asyście Sgt. Crowe
• Pan José Semrau, w imieniu Koła #8 SPK w Ottawie, w asyście Dyrektora Regionalnego Kongresu Polonii Kanadyjskiej na Wschodnią Kanadę, Pana Marka Kiejny.
W swoim przemówieniu kończącym ceremonię, Mistrz Ceremonii wyraził uznanie za wspaniałą współpracę z Komandorem Pawłem Podgórnym, przedstawicielami VAC, Panem Robertem Lokenem i Panem Taoufikiem Ouchagourem. W imieniu Stowarzyszenia Polskich Kombatantów w Ottawie wyraził głęboką wdzięczność i serdeczne podziękowania dla osób zaangażowanych w organizację tego wydarzenia. Podziękował wszystkim za obecność i wytrwałość w tak upalnym dniu.
Wszyscy obecni zostali następnie zaproszeni na poczęstunek do Ambasady RP, organizowany przez Ambasadora RP w Kanadzie, JE Pana Witolda Dzielskiego oraz Attaché Obrony, Komandora Pawła Podgórnego.

80th Anniversary of the outbreak of the
Warsaw Uprising
On a very warm August 1st Thursday morning, the Hon. Mona Fortier, MP for Ottawa-Vanier, Mr. Pierre Tessier, Assistant Deputy Minister, Strategic Policy, VAC, joined Lt. Col. Eva Ponińska-Konopacka, Dame of the Order Virtuti Militari, members of the Polish Diplomatic Corps, members of the Polish Combatants’ Association (PCA) along with members of the Polish Community to honour the courageous RCAF Airmen, who fell over Poland while flying support missions during World War II, and in particular during the uprising aimed at the liberation of the City of Warsaw from Nazi occupation in August and September 1944.
The commemoration took place in Confederation Park in Ottawa where a Monument was erected in 1964 by the Polish Home Army Ex-Servicemen Association to the memory of RCAF Airmen.
At exactly 11:00 a.m. Ottawa time, and 17:00 in Poland all those in attendance joined with the Polish nation and Poles around the world for a moment of silence.
After the playing of the Canadian and Polish national anthems, the Master of Ceremonies, Mr. José Semrau, Vice-President of the PCA Branch #8 in Ottawa, expressed regrets from Mr. Andrzej Ruta, President of the PCA in Canada and Mr. Adrian Hanusiewicz, President of the the PCA in Ottawa for their absence. Both were attending Warsaw Uprising Commemoration Ceremonies in Poland.
The Hon. Mona Fortier, H.E. Mr. Witold Dzielski, and Captain (N) Pawel Podgorny addressed their remarks to those in attendance.
Mr. Kazimierz Samujlo, bugler for the PCA was joined by a CAF bugler and CAF piper. Beginning with “Last Post”—a moment of silence—it was followed by “Rouse” and concluded with “Lament”.
The event then proceeded to the laying of wreaths:
• Hon. Mona Fortier, on behalf of the Government of Canada
• Lt. Col. Eva Ponińska-Konopacka, on behalf of the Polish Home Army, assisted by Dr. Elizabeth Komsta, Secretary, PCA Branch #8 in Ottawa
• H.E. Mr. Witold Dzielski, on behalf of the Republic of Poland, assisted by Captain (N) Paweł Podgórny and Ms. Natalia Kubik
• Mr. Pierre Tessier, on behalf of Veterans Affairs Canada, assisted by Sgt. Crowe
• Mr. José Semrau, on behalf of the PCA Branch #8 in Ottawa, assisted by the Canadian Polish Congress Regional Director for Eastern Canada, Mr. Marek Kiejna
In his closing remarks, the MC acknowledged the co-operative spirit, working together with Capt. (N) Pawel Podgórny, representatives from VAC, Mr. Robert Loken and Mr. Taoufik Ouchagour. On behalf of the Polish Combatants’ Association in Ottawa he expressed a deep gratitude and heartfelt thanks to those involved in organzing this event. He thanked everyone for their attendance and for their endurance on such a hot day.
All in attendance were then invited for refreshments at the Polish Embassy, hosted by the Polish Ambassador to Canada, H.E. Mr. Witold Dzielski and Defence Attaché, Capt. (N) Paweł Podgórny.
